What is a Volcano Vaporizer?

The Volcano is a forced air vaporizer with controls for heat and airflow. It uses a valve and bag to collect vapors so there is absolutely no waste. It’s been over 10 years since Storz & Bickel first released the Volcano Vaporizer and it has still not been dethroned as the ‘King of Vaporizers’.

Vaporization is commonly used for aromatherapy, essential oils, and smokeless ingestion of tobacco, cannabis and other herbs. The benefit of using a vaporizer is that it ‘boils’ off the active ingredients in plant matter instead of burning them, releasing only the active ingredients and no tar or cancer causing carcinogens. It truly is ‘smokeless’.

I’ve had mine for over 6 years and the only problem I’ve had is that one of my Volcano’s tubes collapsed after about 4 years. I was able to fix the tube using only a single tab off of a beer can. I’ll post an article on how to fix a collapsed tube sometime soon. Other than the collapsed tube my Volcano is as good as the day I bought it. It’s durable and it comes with a 5 year warranty that I have never heard of anyone having to use. I once read about a guy who left his volcano on for 2 weeks while he went on vacation and when he came back it was still working. It didn’t overheat or anything!

Save your money

Don’t buy a cheap knockoff or some other crappy vaporizer. I’ve tried nearly all of them and none of them compare to the Volcano. Not even the newest vaporizers can stand up to the trusty old Storz & Bickel Volcano. I almost had my vaporization experience ruined by buying a crappy conductive style vaporizer with the heating element and jar over top. It was disgusting and wasn’t a good experience at all.. What a waste of $140 that was!

You also save money when you vaporize with a Volcano because there is no wasted vapor since it’s collected in a bag — and you actually get more out of your plant materials than you do if you burn them! It’s amazing but true — the Volcano will extract the entire amount of usable ingredients out of the material so long as you have it set to the right temperature for the herb, and to make sure you don’t set it wrong Storz & Bickel even include a simple chart for determining vaporization temperatures.

When I’m using my Volcano I go through a much smaller amount of plant materials and I vape less frequently than I would if I were smoking because the effects last longer and there’s no waste. The machine has more than paid for itself several times over the 6 years that it’s served me. I’ve always felt that it was worth every penny I spent on it. When I got mine I paid $660. It’s now come down to something like $539 and they’ve brought out a new digital version. I have the old model with the dial on the front but the new digital version has the option of setting the specific temperature you’d like instead of adjusting a dial for the same effect.

Get the full flavor

When you vaporize you get the full flavor of your herbs and oils. Of course, the flavor is best immediately after it has been vaporized, but you can leave the vapors in the bag for a small period of time and still have some very aromatic vapor. The taste is quite different than that of smoke, it tastes much cleaner and ‘fresh’. If you vaporize at a higher temperature the flavor and smell comes out more ‘roasted’, but it’s still nothing like smoke. It can still make you cough though.

The vapors don’t linger around in the air like smoke does either. The vapors dissipate much faster than smoke and it doesn’t stain walls or carpets. And the smell doesn’t seep into your clothes or remain on your skin for long. This makes it an attractive device for those who enjoy tobacco and/or cannabis.
