Let’s all quit our jobs
Posted by MitchJul 7
I hate waking up in the morning knowing I have to go to work and make somebody else rich for 12 hours while being treated like a child…
You too, huh? — weird.
So why do we do it? Why do we keep going to work every day where they treat us like children, or worse — numbers and dollar signs? Why keep doing something that we don’t want to do and have no desire to do?
We keep going to work because we feel like we have to, and ‘that’s just the way life is’. Well, we don’t have to, and I plan to quit doing it.
I’m giving myself 365 days to start earning enough on my own to quit going to work and making somebody else rich. I’m going to become an entrepreneur and work for myself, that way I call all the shots, I decide what I do, and it’s up to me how much money I can make.
I don’t like being hauled into an office to sit down with a shop steward and ‘management’ to have a meeting and to sign a written-verbal-warning because my alarm failed to go off and I was late for work. I don’t like being treated like a child by someone who thinks I need to be ‘supervised’, and I don’t like having to ‘ask’ for a day off.
Giving somebody else the power to decide when I can and can’t have a day off makes me feel belittled and powerless. It makes me feel like a slave. I don’t like to feel like somebody else can control what I do, where I go, and when I go — so my main goal is now earning enough money on my own to quit my day job in 365 days or less. To accomplish this I must reach at least $3000 per month which should be enough for me to quit my job and become a full time infopreneur.
Jobs suck
There are plenty of reasons that jobs suck, I could think of enough reasons to write an entire post (or maybe even a book) about why jobs suck, but I don’t think I’m going to. The main reason that jobs suck is because they take power away from you and give it to an employer, in my case the employer is a soulless corporate entity where all the decisions are made at the top and filter down to the employees through various levels of compartmentalized management.
Large corporate employers are the worst kind to have, because most of the time if you disagree with a policy you will get the ‘I didn’t make the rules, but we have to follow them.’ response from the management. Also known as the ‘If you want to keep your job, you’ll do as we say‘ response.
Living up to expectations
Employers have all sorts of expectations that they want you to live up to, and they’re always pushing for more production, faster times, lower costs, higher yields, shorter breaks, fewer employers and higher output. This makes for a stressful and disempowering work environment that actually creates the opposite effect that the employer seeks — people want to work less, do a crappier job, waste more, and even steal from employers who create a negative working environment for their employees.
Living up to other peoples expectations is what we’re taught to do as children, the problem is that we keep doing it well into our adult lives, some of us keep doing it forever. ‘I have to be at work on time’, ‘I’ve gotta make sure these papers are in order’, ‘I don’t want to stay late, but if I don’t my boss will be mad’. These are all examples of living up to the expectations of others.
It’s not that we can’t do these things or that living up to these expectations is somehow wrong, but when you are continuously trying to live up to the expectations of others, you lose your ability to be your own self and enjoy life the way you want to.
Having a job is for kids
Having a job is for kids, and most employers even treat their employees like kids. That’s because jobs are for people who haven’t yet found their calling or identified what they would like to do with their life. People who haven’t yet been inspired to do anything for themselves, or are limiting themselves to the point where they don’t want to take responsibility of their own lives are the kind of people who need jobs.
Jobs are the same old thing we’ve been doing our whole lives — wake up, go to school, take your two 15 minute breaks and your half hour lunch, go home, go to bed so you can get up and do it all again the next day… wake up, go to work, take your two 15 minute breaks and your half hour lunch, go home, go to bed so you can get up and do it all again the next day… You have to be there at 8 o’clock, you go home at 4, bedtime by 11 or 12, it’s the same old crap!
School is pretty much a job factory that leads you to a life of mediocrity and unfulfilled hopes and dreams, and ‘growing up and getting a job’ is to twist the blade that’s been lodged in the heart of your being, it hurts the soul and takes the power you wield over your own experience from you and hands it over to some corporate elite who think they know what’s best for you.
I’m a grown man and I don’t believe that any corporate or other authority figure knows what’s best for me — only I know what’s best for me! I’m responsible for my own experience and I know that, and now it’s time to start taking the power over the experience back and to live life the way I want to. That’s why I have made it my goal to quit my job within 365 days. I want control over my life back.
‘It pays the bills’ – but that’s about it
Having a job is a good way to pay the bills while you try and figure out what it is that you have that you can share with the world, but don’t get stuck in the rut that having a job puts you in. Everyone has something they are good at, something they know more about than most people, some service they can provide, or some product that they can create that will be extremely valuable to others — the hard part is figuring that out, but believe me, everyone has a calling, and everyone is creative when they allow themselves to tap into the infinite consciousness that we are all a part of.
Only when you find your calling and tap into the infinite creative potential within yourself will you be truly inspired and happy to go ‘to work’. This happens to me when I get up on a day off from my slave job and start working on this website. I actually feel inspired to do the work that I do here and I know that if I can make $100 dollars in one week like I did last week there’s nothing stopping me from making $1000 if I really apply myself.
The best part is that it’s not hard to apply myself, I actually like doing this. When you enjoy what you do, it doesn’t seem like work — I know you’ve heard it a thousand times before, but it’s true.
Let’s all quit our jobs
Do you feel the same way about going to work as I do? If you do, why not make a commitment like me? Set a goal like I am to quit your job in 365 days or less. Mark the day on your calendar, write it in the goals section of your journal, set an alarm in iCal, do whatever it is that you do, but set yourself a goal to work towards and start taking action!
Physically setting a goal is an extremely important step in manifesting your intentions. I’m going to be using the ‘law of attraction’ to achieve this goal, and the method I outline in a previous post found here. I am fairly confident that within a year I can reach the income required to quit my job and start doing what I love full-time, it’s just a matter of doing it.
Getting into a habit of doing is extremely important when achieving your goals. Anyone can set a goal in their head and forget it next week and never achieve what they really want in life — most people do! What sets the successful people apart from the rest of the ‘worker bees’ is the habit of doing. You can’t just sit around and meditate and hope the law of attraction will magically achieve your goals for you. The law of attraction is a tool to help you achieve your goals, but it won’t do all the work for you, you have to apply yourself and be dedicated to making your dreams a reality.
Commit yourself publicly
Commit yourself to your goal publicly by posting a comment on this page. You can even come back and post progress reports as you go! Why keep showing up to a job you hate when you can live your dreams if you only apply yourself? We can do anything we want, why give our potential away to some soulless corporation that sees us as numbers and nothing more? We shouldn’t!
Leave a comment below and share your story of what your goal is and what you’re doing to see it become a reality, or maybe you’ve already quit your job and started your own home business or income generating website? Leave a comment telling us what you did, and how you did it, or leave a tip for someone just getting started!

I was a woodworker for ten years before the recession “ate” it and caused layoffs. I was never treated like a child or a number. It seems the most thankless jobs are either call centers, fast food, prostitution, or corporate (anywhere on the ladder). I can’t imagine not working, and it’s not because I am “conditioned” in any way, – it’s because I am a creator…I love to use my hands, building things and using tools. So what if I am making someone else rich…I am a simple creature who doesn’t need shit tons of money. Let the rich man get rich, the bigger he is the harder he falls. Plus, I feel that making constant goals is contradictory to freedom. All goals are limitations made for the Self. http://zenhabits.net/no-goal/
Just be. Create, if you like.
As far as any tangible goal, I just want to survive this Shift with my wits intact.
