Raw Food Diet, Days 21-25: Looking for something exciting?

If you’re looking for something exciting, don’t look here!
It’s been a few days since my last update because I haven’t really had anything new to report. I have been feeling consistently good and haven’t had much to say other than reporting what I’ve been eating. My meals each day seem so similar that I didn’t really see any point in writing post after post listing what I had eaten that day without any additional observations or comments.
Its now the beginning of day 26 of 30 days raw. I am pretty happy with the results so far. I think it’s been a good learning experience not only for me but for my family, friends, and readers too. At the end of the experiment I will be writing a detailed review with all of my observations, thoughts, and suggestions regarding the 30 days raw experiment so I won’t get into that just yet.
I had some mild cravings over the last few days but I’ve done pretty good resisting them. I mostly want to eat pizza, I think I’ve determined that it’s the one thing I miss most. I can’t wait to order my first pizza in May!
It’s easy to resist eating anything non raw now though, I’ve only got 4 more days! They will be easy.
I hoped that I would have had time to learn to create all sorts of cool raw dishes while doing this trial but it turns out they are either too complicated, too time consuming, or I am just too lazy. Probably the last one. Although I didn’t make a whole lot of interesting meals this month I will still be exploring different foods in the future and still want to learn how to make a few tasty raw treats. I’ll probably be drinking a lot more green smoothies once I get my Vitamix, too.
There has been no more detoxification side effects. I’m now very comfortable saying the detox is over. It has been since about day 13 or so. My teeth don’t feel weird anymore and I’m not chilly or having ‘hot flashes’ anymore either. This detox was a lot milder than I expected considering that I have had several years of processed food, dairy, and meats. I suppose the detox side effects are milder for me than most people because I have avoided most medications, vaccinations, unfiltered water, and synthetic products as much as possible for the last 6 years or so. I have especially started looking after my health in a much more effective way in the last 2 years. This includes adding broken cell wall chlorella to my regular daily diet several months before going raw. Chlorella is a great natural detoxifier and I remember going through some detox side effects when I started taking that. I used to take Greens+ daily and have tried other superfood products as well so that probably eased my detox symptoms going into this cleanse.
I did notice yesterday that I got fairly fatigued during the later part of my shift at work. It was probably largely due to the fact that we had several problems with our machines that night and I hadn’t gotten much sleep. That combined was probably a major factor playing into the fatigue I experienced.
Although I didn’t write a blog post every day this week I did jot down most of what I ate. I think I forgot a few things but I put a list of what I wrote down each day below.
Day 22
- 3 pears
- Acai Berry Booster Juice
- 28g goji berries
- 1 apple
- 450g assorted melons
- hempseed salad (300g Dole Salad Mix, 2 handfuls spinach, 55g hempseed)
- 2 mandarins
- 1lb strawberries
Day 23
- 1 banana
- large hempseed salad
- 3 mandarins
- 2 pears
Day 24
- Medium sized fruit tray (cantaloupe, honeydew melon, watermelon)
- Large veggie tray (grape tomatoes, celery, carrots, broccoli)
- 2 pears
- 2 apples
- 1lb strawberries
- 1 large bowl of grapes
Day 25
It’s now the end of day 25. Today I ate a couple bananas when I got up. For lunch/supper (whatever you call it) I had a hawaiian salad. The salad was big but it was mostly made of iceberg lettuce. It had pineapple, mandarins, and some other small pieces of fruit. It also had walnuts and a few other ingredients. I’m not exactly sure what was in it for sure because it was ordered at a restaurant. It was tasty though, whatever was in it.
I had very little of the dressing that came with, the salad didn’t really need much dressing with all the fruit in it. It was cool to be able to eat something that I didn’t make for myself.
I stopped at Sobeys again after lunch and grabbed a few more things. I hope I have enough food to last through to the end of the trial now, but I might have to make one more trip before the end of day 30. I found some organic oranges so I picked up some of them. They don’t usually have organic oranges there so I was pleased to see them. As far as I know I have never had an organic orange! I’m looking forward to the taste difference between the organic and non organic oranges. I also found a new fruit I have never seen before. I bought a couple but I don’t know what to expect from them. They are called ‘cactus pears’ and look like little cacti. They were 2.69 each, I hope they were worth it.
I picked up another tray of veggie sushi, even though I know the rice has been cooked. I like the veggie sushi for a change from all the fresh produce. I was happy to see that there was some left even though I went shopping late, around 10pm. I’ve been munching on the sushi for the last hour or so. I had a few pieces of watermelon earlier as well. So far that’s all I’ve had today. I haven’t been that hungry since the salad I ate earlier. I’ll probably finish this sushi, have one of those organic oranges, and maybe have an apple or two before going to bed early for the day.
I still weigh 155lbs. I have stayed at that weight all week. I lost a bunch of weight early in the trial and have remained very steady at 155 for about a week and a half. I don’t expect I will lose much more by day 30, and that’s fine by me. When I decided to do the 30 days raw food challenge I never intended to lose weight though I knew it would be a consequence of going on this diet. I don’t care if I gain the weight back after the trial or not, but I do certainly feel like this is a healthier weight for me than what I was at before.
And one last completely unrelated thing: I got an iPhone 3G s a few days ago. If anyone has any tips, tricks, or app suggestions please leave them in the comment box on this post, thanks!
